The Lithuanian Geotechnical Society (LGD) has elected new board members at the LGD Republican Conference on the 9th of February, 2023.

The Italian Geotechnical Society (AGI) has lost one of its most prominent members with the death, on the 15th of June 2023, of Prof. Michele Jamiolkowski. Prof. Jamiolkowski had been nominated by AGI to receive the ISSMGE Lifetime Achievement Medal next September as an acknowledgment of the important role he played in the Society. Prof. Sebastiano Rampello, AGI President, has the following message. “To all his friends and colleagues and to his family, we extend our heartfelt sympathy. We all miss the man, the friend, the scientist”.

17DECGE - BucharestThe 17th Danube European Conference on Geotechnical Engineering was held in Bucharest from the 7th to the 9th of June. The event was a great success, with a real sense of comradery across the two days. In all, there were: · 280 attendees from across Europe and around the world · 106 accepted papers covering topics from geotechnical design, environmental geotechnics, and modelling and investigation · 27 exhibitors and sponsors · 11 keynote and guest lectures bring the latest research and innovation from Europe and beyond. Hungary to host 18DECGE in 2027Hungary has won the bid to host the 18th European Conference on Geotechnical Engineering in 2027. Presenting their bid to a meeting of ISSMGE Europe presidents and chairs at 17DECGE, Hungary received unanimous approval from those present. Coagulations to Edina Koch, András Mahler and the Hungarian Geotechnical Society. We wish them all the best as they begin planning for 2027 in Budapest.

ECSMGE 24 The XVIII European Conference on Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (18 ECSMGE24), to be held in Lisbon, Portugal, 26 - 30 August 2024, continues to prepare for Europe’s premier geotechnical engineering conference. About 800 abstracts have already been submitted, and more than 12 workshops have begun preparation. Be sure to take benefit of the early bird prices by registering now. EYGEC 24 The Macedonian Association for Geotechnics (MAG) would like to invite young members of ISSMGE to North Macedonia for the European Young Geotechnical Engineers Conference on the 25th to 29th of June, 2024! Held at the Popova Kula Winery in Demir Kapija, southeast of Skopje (transport provided from airport), MAG looks forward to hosting you at this informative, engaging, inexpensive, and above all else, fun event! Tentative dates for papers are:
The conference will include several invited lecturers, technical tours, the chance to explore the region’s beauty, and many extra activities to get to know other participants. ISSMGE Member Societies are invited to nominate two delegates they would like to attend the event; spare quotas can be fulfilled upon invitation. There is also the option of ISSMGE bursaries for low-income country participants & sponsors. The registration fee will include all expenses of the participants, including airport pick up and drop off, accommodation, meals, conference materials, technical visits, social program, and sightseeing.

NGM 2024The Swedish Geotechnical Society (SGF) is hosting the Nordic Geotechnical Meeting in Göteborg 18th - 20th of September 2024. The first keynote speakers have been announced and include ISSMGE President Dr. Marc Ballouz and our European Vice-President, Prof. Lyesse Laloui.The meeting focuses on social activities, and SGF welcomes all ISSMGE members from across Europe and the world to come and join them for some fun in Göteborg. |
