Our mission

Empowering All Geotechnical Societies to Grow, Share, and Innovate Together
ISSMGE Europe is dedicated to strengthening the geotechnical community across the continent by fostering open communication, sharing knowledge, and promoting innovation. We aim to build bridges between national societies, empower the next generation of engineers, and support the application of cutting-edge research in practice. Through inclusive collaboration and the exchange of experience—from both established and emerging societies—we work to advance geotechnical engineering in all its dimensions, including resilience, digital transformation, and sustainability. Our mission is to ensure that every society, regardless of size or resources, can contribute to and benefit from a dynamic, forward-looking, and globally connected geotechnical profession.

ABOUT

Who we are

ISSMGE Europe is the European regional division of the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE), representing over 9,000 professionals from more than 30 national societies. As a unifying platform, we connect engineers, researchers, educators, and practitioners committed to advancing the science and practice of geotechnical engineering. Under the leadership of the European Vice President, we coordinate regional initiatives that strengthen collaboration, accelerate the transfer of innovation from laboratory to practice, and promote inclusive participation across societies of all sizes. Our efforts span major conferences, technical workshops, standards development, and youth engagement programs—including the European Young Geotechnical Engineers Conference (EYGEC) and contributions to Eurocode 7. Together, we are building a stronger, more resilient geotechnical community—ready to shape the future of Europe’s infrastructure, environment, and cities.
