DANISH GEOTECHNICAL SOCIETY

National Society Highlights

The Danish Geotechnical Society (DGF) recently published an updated version of its widely used guideline: "Guidance in Technical Geology Test Analysis." This reference document plays a key role in standardizing soil sample analysis across Denmark and serves as a valuable resource for geologists and geotechnical engineers alike.

In support of sustainability, DGF introduced a Sustainability Grant last year, aimed at encouraging research into sustainable geotechnical solutions. The grant is specifically targeted toward student theses and graduate-level projects, reinforcing DGF’s commitment to fostering environmentally responsible engineering practices.

As part of its ongoing knowledge-sharing initiatives, DGF continues to organize Technical Geology Seminars, which consistently draw strong participation. These events offer a platform to present and discuss geotechnical challenges and solutions within the context of real-world projects.

A recent seminar focused on Railway Engineering and Geotechnical Issues, attracting broad interest. Presentations covered key topics such as sustainability in railway construction and the geotechnical considerations involved in dam embankment stability.

Another highlight on the annual calendar is the Science Day, held in Aarhus, which showcases current and recently completed research and student projects in geotechnical engineering from across Danish universities. Many of these projects are conducted in collaboration with industry partners, and the event serves as a vibrant meeting point for students, academics, and professionals. Science Day continues to play a vital role in strengthening ties across the Danish geotechnical community.

Upcoming Conferences & Events

Celebrating 75 Years of the Danish Geotechnical Society – September 2025
The Danish Geotechnical Society will mark its 75th anniversary this September with a major celebration. The event will revolve around the theme “History, Present, and Future,” honouring the Society’s legacy while looking ahead to the future of geotechnical engineering in Denmark. While the official programme is yet to be announced, one of the key goals of the anniversary event is to strengthen social ties within the Danish geotechnical community, fostering unity and collaboration among engineers and practitioners.

2nd Drill Rigs and Execution Day – May 2025
Building on the success of its first edition, the second Drill Rigs and Execution Day will take place in May. This outdoor seminar welcomes drill rig operators from geotechnical investigation companies across the country to join an open exchange of knowledge, experiences, and best practices. The event focuses on the practical foundations of geotechnical engineering—soil sampling and in-situ testing—which underpin accurate analysis and design. It offers a valuable opportunity to connect field expertise with engineering applications in a hands-on, collaborative environment.

Ole Møller Named Honorary Member of the Danish Geotechnical Society

Ole Møller has been appointed Honorary Member of the Danish Geotechnical Society in recognition of his longstanding commitment and outstanding contributions to the field. Among his many achievements, his work on pile foundation design and his pivotal role in the development of the Danish National Annex stand out as particularly impactful.
